HOKA GORE-TEX footwear and apparel are designed to keep you protected in wet conditions, on both trails and roads. The GORE-TEX membrane features over 9 billion pores per square inch. Each pore is 20,000 times smaller than a water droplet but 700 times larger than a water molecule, which stops external water from getting in while allowing internal perspiration to escape. This delivers waterproof protection with breathable comfort. While ideal for hiking and trail running, GTX styles like the Clifton GTX also bring weather protection to road running, and HOKA GORE-TEX jackets extend the same benefits to your upper body.
Designed to push on, even in wet weather, HOKA GORE-TEX are officially classified as waterproof. The integrated GORE-TEX membrane provides a guaranteed barrier against rain, snow, and shallow puddles and is an internal layer, whereas water-resistant treatments utilise a topical coating (DWR), the effectiveness of which is reduced by being washed off over time. The internal membrane of HOKA GORE-TEX is what makes it a top choice for athletes in wet and muddy conditions.
HOKA GORE-TEX enhances any activity. Available across several footwear categories, HOKA GORE-TEX designs feature in our trail running range, with the Speedgoat and Challenger as well as the Kaha and Anacapa for hiking. For road running, the HOKA Clifton GTX is a popular choice with commuters and winter road runners, keeping feet cool, fresh and dry. GORE-TEX is sometimes referred to as ‘GTX’ and it is distinguished by its weather-ready outsoles for better grip.
Elevate your winter running with HOKA GORE-TEX, which provides a higher level of thermal insulation more suited to colder weather than warmer temperatures. HOKA GORE-TEX shoes do have a breathable membrane; however, the added layers for waterproofing reduce the overall airflow compared to a non-waterproof open-mesh shoe, meaning feet could overheat in high-heat summer runs. HOKA GORE-TEX shoes are ideal for winter training, wet trails and temperatures below 15℃.
HOKA GORE-TEX shoes are generally in keeping with sizing for non-waterproof shoes, although the internal membrane might make them more ‘snug’. Repel rain and stay nimble on the trails by ensuring you size up by a half size to accommodate thicker thermal socks in winter activities. A supportive fit will keep you agile on the trails, so we recommend measuring the foot in centimetres and comparing it to the GTX model size guide for a precise fit.
Go fearlessly in snow and ice, with more grip, more control and more speed in HOKA GORE-TEX trainers. The GORE-TEX membrane makes it easier to run in snow as it keeps feet dry and prevents wind chill from penetrating the upper, plus many models have deeper lugs or specialised rubber compounds like VibramⓇ Megagrip for enhanced traction in slushy or icy conditions. However, for runners tackling a run on pure ice, external traction spikes added to their HOKA footwear are recommended.
Fulfil your running potential by taking care of your HOKA GORE-TEX shoes, as although the internal membrane does not ‘wear out’ like a chemical spray due to being a durable material, it can be compromised if the fabric is damaged. If a GORE-TEX membrane is punctured or if salt and dirt clogs the pores, or if the outer material is ‘wetted out’, it can impact the membrane’s ability to breathe. If water stops beading on the surface, however, users can apply a fresh Durable Water Repellent (DWR) spray to the exterior of the HOKA shoe.
Empower your run with durable HOKA GORE-TEX shoes that will keep you going for around 300 to 500 miles, just like standard HOKA midsoles. Proper storage will extend the use of HOKA GORE-TEX as the waterproof membrane is engineered for longevity, but will naturally develop microscopic tears in high-stress areas after extensive mileage. Keeping HOKA GORE-TEX shoes away from direct heat and regular cleaning will help maximise the life of both the cushioning and the waterproof barrier.
HOKA GORE-TEX shoes help you reach your full potential. For runners who frequently train in adverse weather conditions, HOKA GORE-TEX footwear is a valuable investment thanks to its licensed technology and specialised construction that seals seams against moisture. Guard against discomfort and skin maceration caused by wearing waterlogged footwear during prolonged activities with HOKA GORE-TEX shoes to keep feet dry and warm.
Be ready for your next adventure by maintaining HOKA GORE-TEX shoes in the correct way. Rinse away mud and debris with lukewarm water and a soft cloth or brush and avoid using biological detergents or fabric softeners on your HOKA GTX as chemicals can damage the technical properties of the membrane. To extend the lifespan of your GORE-TEX shoes, always air dry them at room temperature and avoid high heat from radiators or tumble dryers which can melt the waterproof adhesives and deform the midsole foam.
